What: Announces the beginning of a new support group. David M.
Harrison, Director of hard of hearing ministry invites all hearing impaired
people to the Hear Now Café. It is a homemade dessert gathering for food, fun, fellowship and encouragement for hard of hearing people.

The next meeting will meet on the second Friday of every month.

The Hear Now Café will meet in the activity center at Ridgeview Baptist Church 6 N. Moore Road at Brainerd Road, Chattanooga, TN 37411.

The Hear Now Café is open to all hard of hearing people, family and friends. It is a monthly support group for those who want to meet others who struggle with hearing loss issues. All alumni of the Lip Reading Academy will be recognized and honored.

There is a need for a Christian based support group that reaches into all the churches in the area. Every church needs a hearing center and a local support group to deal with hearing accessibility.  This new ministry is designed to reach out the many hard of hearing in the community.  There are 37,000 hard of hearing persons in Hamilton County, Tennessee who need help understanding hearing loss and how to deal with it.  80% of the hard of hearing people may never attend social activities such as church because they cannot function in a hearing situation.

Benefit: The Hear Now Café will be fully equipped with two kinds of assistive listening devices:

  • The FM assistive listening device supplied by
Williams Sound System of Eden Prairie, Minnesota.
  • The Telecoil Loop amplified system provided by
the Univox Company of Denmark, for those who wear hearing aids with “T” coil switches. Please check to see if you have a working “T” switch in your hearing aide.
  • If you have a “cochlear” or a “BAHA” implant, make sure you have an adapter for the FM system or the telecoil loop. Ask your audiologist about this.

Our purpose is to build a strong caring Christian community,  a network of support, for the hard of hearing.
At the HEAR NOW CAFÉ you will find it a place of refuge from the world  of silence, missing words and misunderstanding what is being said. Our goal is to create a loving caring atmosphere for all hard of hearing people by  including them in every program and activity. The ramp for the hard of hearing is not built out of wood and steel, but a better method of communication called hearing accessibility.

Each month a chef will prepare a special homemade dessert. Make this event a special date night.

Make your reservation early so we can tell the chef how many to bake for. RSVP how many you are bringing and give us their names. Call 423-624-1669 or E-mail: letmypeoplehear@yahoo.com.
